Prairie Dog

Meet Simon, Alfie & Alvin

These rodents live in North America's prairies and open grasslands.

Prairie Communication

Prairie dogs live in family groups in underground burros. They communicate with loud cries. A warning cry, for example, will send a family's members hustling to their holes at the approach of a badger, coyote, or other predators. A second, “all-clear” call alerts the family when the danger has passed.
