In our Mineshaft we have our Black Tailed Prairie Dogs, Simon & Alvin!
Prairie Dogs are found all over North America in large plains and grasslands where they have entire communities underground. They each have their own way of communicating to each other, especially when there are predators around.
Prairie Communication
Prairie dogs live in large groups underground. They communicate with loud, high pitch calls to each other. For example, they send out a warning cry that will send their community to their holes when they spot a predator approaching. Once the predator is gone, they will send out another call that would tell them they are safe.
